Considered, along with "La verbena de la Paloma," as one of the masterpieces of the "género chico" genre, it is one of the fundamental pieces where the mastery of the libretto and music is appreciated. The play takes place in a courtyard of neighbors in Madrid at the end of the 19th century. Felipe, one of the neighbors in the courtyard, boasts of being the only one who resists the charms of Mari Pepa, who is considered a seductress of men by the women in the neighborhood. The women from some neighbors, who believe they have a chance to conquer the "revoltosa" of the neighborhood, create a funny situation to teach them a lesson.
